Etymology

Argyrosomus - meaning silver bodied
Hololepidotus - smooth scaled
The name Kob is derived from the Old Dutch name, kabeljou.

Features

Size : 100 cm | Weight : 8 kg

Ecology

Commonly found in shallow coastal waters with high turbidity, since they are so well adapted to function in dark and murky waters. Mostly feeds at night on small fish, squid, cuttlefish, prawn and crabs.

Distribution

Kabeljou occur along the entire coastline of South Africa, from Skeloton coast to Mozambique, where they are caught with hand - lines from vessels.

Regulation

Minimum legal size - 50cm
Bag limit for recreational fishing - 5 per person.
