Etymology

Chrysoblephus - Golden eyed
gibbiceps - Gibbous head
Red stumpnose - Given to this fish because of its red colour and its blunt nose.

Features

Size : 40 cm | Weight : 1.8 kg

Ecology

Inhabits shallow coastal waters and are known to be found near reefs to depths of 150m. Red stumpnose feeds on crustaceans, mollusks, worms and small fish species.

Distribution

Red stumpnose can be found from Cape Point to East London and they are caught with hand - lines by the fishermen from vessels.

Regulation

Minimum legal size - 30cm
Bag limit for recreational fishing - 1 per person.
